All students at Paynesville Primary School take part in the following specialist programs:
Paynesville Primary School has achieved High Performing School status with student achievement in reading, writing and mathematics, second to none. Our students lead their learning journey and are supported by staff and parents. At Paynesville Primary School we are strong believers that every child can succeed.
Paynesville Primary School has been running Kurnai Language classes for students from Grades 1 to 6 since 2018. Not only learning the basics of the Kurnai language, students have also been learning about Kurnai history and culture. This year students have been learning how to weave a traditional Kurnai basket.
“The baskets were used by the Kurnai people to carry food collected from their environment such as berries, tubers and fruit. First students learned a basic stitch around a pencil, (a blanket stitch or half hitch). Then we collected lomandra grass from the school grounds to start to create their own basket. The students will create their own shape to hold whatever they have imagined. Some ideas were pencil holders for their desks, place mats for the table or coasters. I loved seeing the joy on the students' faces when they had mastered the stitch and I look forward to watching their creations grow!”
